During World War II, Épinal, France, was the site of both an American cemetery and a POW camp. The Epinal American Cemetery holds the graves of over 5,250 American servicemen who died during the Allied liberation of France. The cemetery was established in October 1944 by the U.S. 7th Army as they pushed north through France.
