Tommy Lee / Nick DenBoer Surrealism Series Prints

A riot of surreal imagination, punk energy, and darkly playful distortion — “Baby Tommy” is a striking collaboration between Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee and award-winning director, animator, and digital artist Nick DenBoer.

Created in 2023 as part of their Surrealism Series, this 17 x 25 inch print transforms Lee into a warped, hyper-stylized character navigating a decadent, chaotic interior — a theatrical mash-up of luxury, rebellion, absurdity, and digital hallucination. DenBoer’s signature aesthetic — unsettling yet humorous, grotesque yet meticulous — collides with Lee’s anarchic rock persona to produce an image that feels equal parts music video fever dream and contemporary pop-surrealist tableau. The composition is layered with visual symbolism: exaggerated proportions, tattooed figures, theatrical décor, blood-tinged luxury, and satirical domestic chaos. It is immersive, cinematic, and deliberately provocative — a surreal self-portrait refracted through digital experimentation.

The work originates from DenBoer’s widely published animated project featured on Stash Magazine, where his signature “CG chaos” aesthetic was described as ranging from festival openers to high-profile music collaborations.

For this project, DenBoer:

• 3D photo-scanned Tommy Lee’s tattoos

• Captured hundreds of images for photogrammetry

• Built a digital model of Lee

• Animated the scene at 150 BPM

• Passed the rough cut to Tommy, who composed the track

• Launched the project shortly after — “and the rest is history.”

The result is a hyper-detailed digital hallucination staged inside a decadent, gilded interior spiraling into punk absurdity — levitating bodies, baroque luxury, violent slapstick surrealism, and distorted self-mythology.

This print is dated 01/12/23, signed by Nick DenBoer lower right.

This work is from an exceptionally rare edition of only two prints (1/2 and 2/2), making it among the most limited releases by the artist. The combination of ultra-low edition size, artist signature, personal inscription, and provenance from Tommy Lee’s collection significantly enhances its scarcity and cross-collectible appeal in both contemporary art and music memorabilia markets.
